Page 11 -What was the 2004 Topps Total 'Online' Boxed Set?

From a question by R.E. of Evanston, IL.

I want to first thank R.E. for pointing out a typo on the website and a question about that same item (seen on Gallery I, Page 11). You're right - it's from 2004, not 2005. I've corrected the year of issue, and thank you!

Now to your question:

This is the item I was referring to as the 'online' boxed set. (see scans) You can see that the set is contained in a small box holding 28 cards. It should be noted that once the set is removed from the plastic shrinkwrap it can be quite difficult to put back into the shell. Collector's Note: The box lists 27 cards, but for some reason it doesn't count the Checklist Card (picturing Magglio Ordonez) which makes the actual physical count 28.

And to address the other part of your question - you are correct again - I mistakenly said that the image used for this particular Frank card was not used in the main product line - in fact it was: 2004 Topps Total Card #240

Explanation: I lost track of many issues after 2001 when I stopped buying boxes and refocused my budget toward obtaining specific collectibles. It was also about this time that I stopped buying the monthly guides, which I found less and less useful as Frank was downgraded to 'regional star' status. And once I did that - I no longer knew anything about issue types, insert ratios, or even what the cards themselves looked like. Rather I relied on my observations and ... well... auction descriptions to give me a sense of what was available or valuable. 'Course that has bit me in the backside more than once when I popped for a half-baked insert that had an enticing auction description. <laughing> :-D

While this was (at the time) only available via Topps.com - I honestly don't know if it was available thru other venues like hobby publications or catalogs. However, a recent web search reveals several companies now offering this boxed set at very good prices. Even lower than what I paid Topps. D'oh! <lol>

What I can say with certainty: The Frank that was issued thru this boxed set is definitely a different number (#CW18) from the regularly issued 2004 Topps Total Card (#240).
