Two Oranges, A Sweet Grape, and The Letter 'M'

1998 Score Rookie & Traded
Spring Training #254
AP 1/1
I won't embarrass or allow anyone to hassle the collector who traded me this card - since he did it without asking for anything in return! Stunning.

I tried to do right by him then and will continue to do so at every opportunity - including this one - by saying nothing more than: Thank you. I won't ever forget. <nod>

This is also one of my most treasured baseball cards and will never see another collection. In fact, I've instructed my wife that in the event of my death, this card is to be sent back to the original owner. No joke, no exaggeration. You can't see it in the scan - but there's a piece of paper inside the team bag which has specific instructions. :-)

2007 Topps Sterling Lettermen "M" (Away Jersey)
What else can one say? The card speaks for itself.

I'm trying for a complete nameplate - albeit a mixed one - since its no longer possible to build one from only the Home or Away Jersey.

There's much, much, much more to this story than just this card - but that's for another update. ;-D

2000 UD Legends Gold #'d to 50
I'm sure some younger collectors are asking themselves how I could qualify a card numbered to fifty as 'Über'. They're probably thinking about an aluminum plate or equally inelegant 1/1.

Trust me - you'd be surprised how much these go for when they hit the market.

You don't have to take my word for it. Track it the next time it hits the auction block. That happens an average of once a year - maybe. And in that year, watch how many "1/1s" hit the auction block.
;-D

1999 UD SP Signature Edition Gold #'d to 50
To this day I don't completely understand how or why this issue commands such high dollars. Seriously. Even with the push toward 'on-card' autos - this still sometimes makes it way to prices north of one-fifty. I actually have a record back in 2002 when one of these guys went for $360!

What is it about these cards? Set collectors?

To me, a better bang for your buck would be UD's Sweet Spots - the ones signed on a cut baseball or bat barrel. But that's just me. <g>
