Note: I did not "adjust" the scale of the images. This is in fact
as large as it appears.
This supersized card is 5"W x 7"H.
[The following was originally written in 2002]
Highly unusual oversized "super" variation. I put in several years
of research and I still haven't yet been able to lock-down a specific purpose
or retail product this was intended for. At the time (2002) I thought this was
a fairly common product line, typical of many manufacturer's "super"
or oversized cards intended for blister packages on their way to places like
Wal-Mart or Target. I thought that primarily because one seller had broken down
several complete sets all at once; suggesting, at the time, that there
were a ton of these guys running around. Which is why I didn't purchase more
examples - much to my everlasting regret.
Over the years I've never seen another sale.
If you've
spent any time going through this website you know how intense I am about validating
genuine card issues and autographed memorabilia. And I wouldn't waste your time
mentioning something I even remotely thought might be fraudulent. I can say
for certain that this is a genuine Score product. Not something some
clever huckster whipped out of his color printer.
The Score Authenticator works on these
supersized cards - it reads: PBI
97.
I also purchased an Alex 'ARod' Rodriguez version at the same time I bought
the Frank in the hopes of reselling for a quick profit. I keep it now as proof
that other players besides Frank were produced. In fact, I spent time looking
just for the ARod version, figuring that ARod material is sold and traded
more often than Frank. No dice - it never came up in all those years of searches.
There were nine cards in the series. Frank is #1 and ARod #9.
UPDATE!
(11/28/06): I recently came across a seller who had six partial sets for
sale! I purchased one example of every card he had, including an extra Big Hurt
to replace my original copy which was dinged. <wink> I now know 8 of the
9 supers that made up the checklist for this unusual issue. If you're interested
I placed it at the bottom of this page. If you know who is on Card #7 - give
me a holler and I'll pass it on
to Don Fluckinger and the SCD Standard Catalog. See below for an update
to this issue!
