Despite
repeated attempts by myself and others (I've cataloged five auctions over
the past six years or so), the leading price guide "analysts" will
not acknowledge those documented auctions which regularly pass north of the
fifty-dollar range. Beckett claims these cards can typically be found in the
price range indicated in their guides - somewhere between .06¢ - .20¢
cents for either the pack-issued ABCD or redemption ABCD card. Again, according
to Beckett, this ultra rare card can be found for less than a quarter.
Yeah, good luck with that in the real world.
Note: Almost, but not quite as tough, is the "Sweepstakes"
ABCD card which can still be found in unopened boxes of '94 Topps Series 2.
This is the card you had to send back to Topps in order to receive your ABCD
Certified Winner Redemption Set. Keep in mind that it was a 1 per case insert
or 1:720 packs. Add to that problem, many cases were broken down for individual
sale. So unless you're prepared to purchase an unopened case, be prepared
to pay a decent amount for the Sweepstakes ABCD.
Collector's Note: As noted previously, when this comes to market this card typically goes for more than $50.
Latest Update (7/26/06): Check it out - another ABCD Redemption going for more than fifty bucks. And what does Beckett say?
